Sega Responds to 3Dfx Charges
July 24, 1997

While confirming much of 3Dfx's previous statements regarding the termination of contract between the two companies, Sega was characteristically stoic.

While Sega itself really couldn't offer specific details into the recent 3Dfx happenings (due largely to the fact it still isn't admitting the existence of new hardware), a Sega spokesperson was able entertain a few questions about the matter.
When asked if Sega's decision to terminate the 3Dfx contract was not based upon any performance or price factors, as 3Dfx maintains, a spokesperson for Sega said that: "That would be a fair statement."

With regard to the possibility of being on the receiving end of legal action for termination of the contract, the Sega representative said that the company was aware that 3Dfx was evaluating its options. "We'll take this one step at a time and try to work with them. Right now we're really not worried but it all depends upon the steps 3Dfx takes. We are still an investor in the company [3Dfx] and that factor may play a role somewhere in a solution."

Sega could still not comment upon other parties [specifically PowerVR] who were competing with 3Dfx for the contract to build chips for its next console.
